goeiedag, moloweni & shalom!

"I believe that South Africa is the most beautiful
place on earth," Mandela once said. Blessed with
crisp blue skies and mellow sun beating down; we
are all blessed with some of the most favorable
winters in the world. Winter holidays at Umngazi
have created a wonderful opportunity for families
and friends to reconnect, relax or embrace an
array of activities on the Wild Coast's playground...

What makes a working mother and average athlete decide to take on a
massive physical and mental challenge to run, cycle and kayak the perimeter
of South Africa, covering 6772 kilometres in less than five months?
Meet Kim van Kets; the most inspirational lady born and raised in rural
Eastern Cape...

"Hello to all the lucky recipients of the Umngazi Newsletter! If you are on
this mailing list you have obviously already been introduced to paradise.
People often ask me which is my favourite part of RSA (and I should know,
having pretty much seen it all!) I can answer this question without
hesitation: the Wild Coast, HANDS DOWN!"

After four exciting years of receiving accolades
for excellence from TripAdvisor, we are beyond
thrilled to announce that we have been welcomed
into the 2015 TripAdvisor Hall of Fame!

It is so difficult to believe that Maddy has left us, her loss has left a great sadness here at
Umngazi and I am sure around the country and indeed the world. Knowing that we all have
very special memories of Maddy will ensure that her smile as well as her dancing on the bar
counter with everybody will live on at Umngazi River Bungalows, at Basils Bar as well as in all
our hearts and minds.

At this time of the year; Umngazi guests are greeted to the sight of the
Humpback Whales (The most commonly seen whale species off the Wild Coast)
These whales feed in Antarctic icy waters during the Summer and visit our shores
during their annual migration to warmer waters during June to late November/early
December; to give birth and nurse their calves.

The whales do not come in as close as they do in the Southern Cape so it is best to
pack a pair of binoculars and climb a high vantage point (the spa deck or Sugar Loaf
a good spot!). Observers will be treated to spectacular displays as these incredible
whales leap almost clear of the water. Various acrobatic displays can be seen from tail
slapping, to eye hopping, lobtailing (where they remain inverted from time to time, with
only their tails protruding above the surface), to full breaches. These are forms of
communication between individuals as well as playful behaviour.

On that note, we very much welcome your feedback and will include your suggestions
wherever possible, to even further improve the product and service.

Until Spring, "Ungapoli Umoya" meaning "Don't run out of spirit"...
